When you are finished, turn in the handout and grab a mini white board and a dry erase marker. (Please take care of my markers!!)
Choose 1 word from your vocab list, but make sure you do not say the word out loud!
Divide your board into 4 squares.
In the 4 squares put the following information:
Draw a picture to depict the word
Give examples of when you might do this
Write a list of synonyms
Write a list of antonyms (words that mean the opposite)
When everyone is finished, find 2 people on the other side of the room to show your board to. See if they can guess what your word is based on the information provided!
Model, Read & Discuss:
Lets look at your PEE paragraphs you wrote about your advertisements.
Now, look at the example PEE paragraphs about tone and purpose.
What do my paragraphs have that yours don't have? What can you do to make your paragraphs more like mine? What information do my paragraphs have that yours don't? How can we add more meat to your paragraphs?
Look through the questions and your answers. Choose 3 that you can add to your paragraphs that you do not already have. (Please choose information about BOTH tone and purpose. Don't just add info to 1 paragraph.)
Pair up and swap paragraphs with your partner. Discuss the questions and answers from the handout. Give your partner suggestions about which information to add to the paragraphs to make it more "meaty."
Write: Classwork/Homework
Add more meat to your paragraphs! Use the dissection and analysis handout to help.
Write your introduction and conclusion. (The tone/purpose paragraphs are the body. Now we need to introduce the information and conclude it!)
